Grand Rapids Police Bodycam Video - Officer Shoots Suspect That Stabbed a Woman At Meijer

GRPD: Meijer stabbing suspect shot by officer before arrest

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Grand Rapids Police say the suspect involved in the Meijer stabbing and carjacking incident is now in custody after an officer-involved shooting. Police saw the suspect, who is identified as 20-year-old Victor Gonzalez, inside a business at 640 Bridge St. NW on Saturday morning. Gonzalez then fled to another business at 608 Bridge St. NW. After a short pursuit around 9 a.m., Gonzalez attempted to flee out of the back of a business. At that time, an officer shot and wounded Gonzalez. Gonzalez was taken to St. Mary's hospital after the shooting; he is listed in critical condition with a stomach wound. Police did not confirm whether Gonzalez was armed or not during the incident. On Thursday, March 9, around 8:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of a possible carjacking and stabbing in the parking lot of the Meijer store located on Alpine Avenue. Gonzalez followed a 25-year-old Grand Rapids woman to her car in attempt to steal her car, however a struggle between the two broke out and he stabbed the woman multiple times. Two different Good Samaritans attempted to interject and chase Gonzalez, who fled the scene on foot. However, neither they nor the police K-9 unit used to track him were successful at the time.
