Tunnel With Nuclear Waste Collapses In Washington State

SPOKANE, Wash. – A portion of a storage tunnel that contains rail cars full of radioactive waste collapsed Tuesday morning, forcing an emergency declaration at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in southeastern Washington state. Officials detected no release of radiation and no workers were injured, said Randy Bradbury, a spokesman for the Washington state Department of Ecology. There were no workers inside the tunnel when it collapsed. But nearby Hanford workers were evacuated and others who were farther away were told to remain indoors, the U.S. Department of Energy said. The accident occurred at a facility known as PUREX, located in the middle of the sprawling Hanford site, which is half the size of Rhode Island, Bradbury said. Hanford is located near Richland, about 200 miles southeast of Seattle. The closed PUREX plant was part of the nation’s nuclear weapons production complex. Hanford for decades made plutonium for nuclear weapons and is now the largest depository of radioactive defence waste that must be cleaned. It contains about 56 million gallons of radioactive waste, most of it in 177 underground tanks. Source>>>>>>>

Lebanon: Muslims Set Fire To Refugee Camp

A fire tore through a camp for Syrian refugees in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley on Sunday, killing at least one person and leaving two in critical condition, the U.N. refugees' organization said. Flames and thick clouds of black smoke rose from the site near the town of Qab Elias, around a hour's drive east of Beirut, in footage broadcast by Lebanon's MTV, and at least one explosion was seen. Reuters TV footage showed the blaze had virtually razed the camp as a fire truck doused down the still-smoldering ground. A Syrian refugee said many of the people living at the camp had come to Lebanon from the Raqqa area of Syria. UNHCR spokeswoman Dana Sleiman said the camp had been home to 102 families. "We've started the assessment as to how many tents have been damaged. As soon as the assessment is done, we will provide the families with all the help they need," she said. "Apparently it started with a cooking stove. We are waiting to confirm that." Sleim…

I Got Me Matches & Gas Lets Go Out Back & Have Some Fun....
A man accused of pouring gasoline on his fiancee and lighting her on fire says it was a 'horrible accident,' because he is in 'love with her.' Michael Slager, 40, allegedly set Judith Malinowski, 31, ablaze behind a Speedway gas station in Gahanna, Ohio, on Sunday, at 5.pm. Malinowski is in critical condition with life-threatening burns and was hospitalized at Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. But Slager's attorney, Douglas Shaw, said that the entire incident was a mistake and Slager loves his fiancée and injured himself while putting out the fire. According to an eyewitness who called 911, the couple had been arguing before he lit the blaze in the Columbus suburb. The caller said the suspect then used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
